2008 edition of the University of Minnesota Spring Squash Classic featured 35 squash players from across the Twin Cities Metro area. Arturo Manzur finished off a sweep of the 2007-2008 University Classic Tournaments by virtue of his 3-1 win over Dan Pepper to win the 5.0+ division. Finishing 3rd was Nate McLain. However, the talk of the tournament was Tomas Gutierrez who was playing in his first 5.0 tournament and managed to upset Pat O’Shea, and pushed the eventual runner up, Dan Pepper to 5 games.

Hoyt, Erickson, and Gutierrez are Victorious in MSA-Sponsored Team Event
A strategic approach, one not employed in years in the Midwest, to seeding its players proved ingenious as Lief Erickson, Tedd Hoyt, and Carlos Gutierrez won the MSA three- person team squash event played at the U of MN. Captain Erickson placed Gutierrez, who conventionally would have been seeded in the number three position, as the team’s number one seed in both the semi-finals and finals match.

In the 5.0 final, Hannu Koho outlasted Arturo Manzur 3 - 2 in a tough five game match to take the top honors at the University of Minnesota Fall Classic Tournament on Saturday, December 8th. Hannu started strong taking the first game only to see Arturo come back and take the lead. The long fifth game went down to the wire, with Arturo playing great defense to stay even before Hannu prevailed in the match which lasted more than an hour. The 5.0 Consolation went to Richard Prince in a 3 – 1 victory over Pat O’Shea.
Lakeville Proves to be Fine Venue for One Day Tournament - October 27, 2007
The MSA sponsored the first one day tournament at the brand new Lifetime Fitness facility in Lakeville, MN. Four very nice regulation size courts that are snuggled into two corners of this huge facility are going to stimulate squash in this community that had previously been largely enjoying Racketball.
