Thoughts on the Winternational

I have two points to make regarding local tournaments, both fairly obvious but worth repeating.  Last year, 2006/7, we hit a low point in number of squash events in the metro area.  This year has been better, but we need to cooperatively work toward further expansion of tournaments and other events.  Actively supporting tournament directors (including pro-active volunteering) would be a major plus in helping that happen.

Second, when contemplating ones tournament experience it is natural to compare the various tournament venues.  If you are prone to do that and if the University tournaments are one of your points of comparison, please keep in mind the major advantages we enjoy when hosting an event.  We have a ready and willing pool of volunteers to draw from.  We have the wonderful resources of the University behind us – the courts, the maintenance thereof, and all the staff operating the Rec Center.  And we have the resources of the Squash Club as a backstop.  We are responsible, but we don’t have to worry about the financial picture.
