A strategic approach, one not employed in years in the Midwest, to seeding its players proved ingenious as Lief Erickson, Tedd Hoyt, and Carlos Gutierrez won the MSA three- person team squash event played at the U of MN. Captain Erickson placed Gutierrez, who conventionally would have been seeded in the number three position, as the team’s number one seed in both the semi-finals and finals match. Gutierrez took his lumps in both matches, but any blows to his on-court self esteem were quickly remedied as Hoyt and Erickson displaced their opponents to claim 2-1 team victories over their opponents in both the semis and the finals.
18 players comprising six three-person teams took part in the event. Cole Hoyt performed admirably on-court as the event’s youngest participant. No players suffered any carbohydrate deficiencies thanks to the ridiculously large number of bagels supplied by event organizer Jay Del Carmen. All participants appeared in good spirits throughout the day. Congratulations to the winning team, and thanks to all who took part, and to the U of MN Squash Club for hosting the event.

Nice Going
All is fair in love and war? Sounds like it.
Looking forward to the next event.
